Small Works: Miniatures by Hampton Roads artists at Charles H. Taylor Art Center, Hampton, Virginia.

Three hundred artists from throughout the region were challenged to create new pieces of less than thirty-six square inches. No small challenge there! Artists working in two dimensional media created six inch by six inch works while three dimensional works fit within a six inch cube. The resulting exhibition included over 300 pieces in virtually all media including drawing, painting, printmaking, watercolor, photography, sculpture, jewelry, fiber, ceramics and glass.

"Being a viticulturist for 30+ years and an art enthusiast, I was thrilled to be asked to partner with a respected artist like Lynette Crain to create a work that combined two of my passions.

It's exciting to see these charismatic birds on canvas! Lynette, with her creativity and knowledge, has been a joy, although I have found myself to be quite difficult to work with! Sitting in a glass cube for hours, not knowing who was looking over my shoulder while putting exotic shades of color on canvas (in the shape of birds, no less) made me sweat, but I loved it!

This process has shown me a new window into the natural world!"
